Fight against corruption in India is "Ours" not just Anna Hazare's
Dear Friends, Over the years, several Bills and Acts have been debated and passed in parliament. Post legislation, it has been noticed that very little happens. Implementation of laws and Acts has not quite been our strong point. So, only time will tell as to what might happen to the Jan Lokpal Bill. If we as a Nation have decided to pull corruption by its roots and consign it to its eternal burial, then we should not be leaving the fight to Anna Hazare and the Jan Lokpal Bill entirely to rid ourselves of this virus. Each of us Indians have to vow that we will not sponsor corruption. Supporting Hazare was easy but swearing not to bribe or tolerate bribing calls for a great deal of commitment, determination and sacrifice. I have been following discussions on various E-groups and media channels for some time and have also been contributing to some of them. It is indeed heartening to see the passion with which people have been raising their voices against corruption. I would like to raise the question Are we as Indians prepared to take an oath today "Not to pay bribe from this moment in any form, be it for our driving license, passport, registration of property..." Will we mobilise the people around us to stop exploitation by people in power? Will we be prepared to stop and fight for justice when it directly does not concern us.? Sirs, it is easy to support or criticise people or movements that are outside our being. It is easy to point fingers at the Govt and the politicians. True change will happen only when I will change. True change will happen when every Indian decides to change himself/herself. So friends, can we start a Nation wide campaign calling for a commitment to change from every Indian? Let us do it. Let us not just leave the fight to Anna Hazare! George Abraham
